Dark Was The Night

Dark Was The Night is a compilation album featuring music from:
The National, Arcade Fire, Grizzly Bear, Bon Iver, Beirut, My Morning Jacket, Yo La Tengo, Sufjan Stevens, Andrew Bird, Beach House, Spoon, and Iron and Wine (which are some of my favorite artists.) just to name a few.

It was created to benefit the Red Hot Organization – an international charity dedicated to raising money and awareness for HIV and AIDS through popular culture. It was released in February of 2009 and produced by The National's Aaron and Bryce Dessner.

These are my favorite tracks:

Grizzly Bear: Deep Blue Sea

The National So Far Around The Bend

A Lovely Hallucination

DeVotchka is a quartet band based in Denver, Colorado. They get there name from the Russia word devotchka meaning "girl." They fuse Romani, Greek, Slavic, Bolero, and Mariachi with American punk and folk. You will recognize this music if you have ever seen the film Little Miss Sunshine (which I am sure you have) because they did the soundtrack.

This song is off their Una Volta album released in 2003. The song is awesome but this video is weird.

Half-Awake

I heard this song last night and it just made me remember how much I love The National. "Fake Empire" is off their 2007 album Boxer.

They recently came out with a new album, High Violet in May of last year, which is amazing. Listen to England.

An interesting fact about the National, if you don't usually listen to them, is that the band is derived of the lead singer, Matt Berninger and two pairs of brothers, Aaron and Bryce Dessner and Scott and Bryan Devendorf.

Coolness Is Having Courage

Noah Lennox is a musician from Baltimore and one of the founding members of Animal Collective. He started a solo career in 1998 under the name Panda Bear because he was constantly drawing pandas on his music.

"Comfy in Nautica" is off his third solo album Person Pitch released on March 20, 2007.  Pitchfork named in the top album of that year.

Listen to the newest single "Last Night at the Jetty" from his new album Tomboy set to be released April 12.

Proudly We Hail

Best rendition of the National Anthem I have ever heard. Whitney Houston at the Superbowl in 1991.

Happy Superbowl!

You Will See

This is the first single off the new Fleet Foxes album Helplessness Blues.  It is scheduled to be released on May 3rd.

Fleet Foxes is a Seattle-based folk band.  They have previously released 2 EP entitled Fleet Foxes, released in 2006, and Sun Giant, released in 2008, as well as a full-length self-titled album in 2008, which won Pitchfork's album of the year.  They have been one of my favorite bands since the moment I heard the song "Your Protector." They describe their music as "baroque harmonic pop jams."

This is "Helplessness Blues."

Not As Much Is Good Enough

I can't help myself (:

p.s. New Disco was released on January 25th.

Gentil A Tua Mao

Little Joy is a Brazilian/American indie rock band consisting of singer/songwriter Rodrigo Amarante of Los Hermanos, drummer Fabrizio Moretti of The Strokes and multi-instrumentalis Binki Shapiro, who appeared as a "muse" in many of Beck's music videos.  Amarante and Moretti met at a music festival in Lisbon where both bands were performing, humoring the idea of working together on music that sounded completely different than the music they were currently working on.  They met Shapiro through mutual acquaintances.  With the help of producer Noah Georgeson, who also produced Devendra Banhart's album Crippled Crow, their self-titled album was released in 2008.

It has been considered "one of the sweetest, most listenable, consistently enjoyable records of the season" by Pitchfork.

This is "Next Time Around" off the album Little Joy.

I Don't Worry Cause...

Sang this song at karaoke last night with a friend.  Let me just say, we rocked it! (: In my opinion, the best songs to sing at karaoke are songs that are up-beat and that people will recognize, the older the better.
